“Outside My Helmet” is a series of prints inspired by a month-long artist in residence in Wyoming. During my time there, I visited many battlefields, reading history books, drew, printed, photographed and hiked in places that had been essential to American Indian tribes before the White Man came. I had the privilege to witness a South Dakota buffalo roundup, where I saw cowboys gather a herd of 1,500 animals in a few hours. These encounters shifted my intellectual knowledge of the events that took place in our country 250 years ago into a deeply personal experience.
With hindsight, what marked me the most was lying down in places where intense conflicts had taken place and just letting the wind, the silence and the power of the soil go through me.
