We live in a world where daily catastrophic news often portrays other cultures in ways that inspire fear and reinforce preconceptions.
Intuitively convinced that reality didn’t coincide with the stories in the media, I decided to jump on my motorcycle and travel the world to meet the people I was supposed to fear.
Crossing Europe into Turkey, and later Pakistan and Morocco, I wasn’t surprised to discover that the stories we are told, are profoundly different from reality. Conversations replaced assumptions, and strangers became friends —-generous, curious, and caring.
My art grew from a desire to share those experiences. I create life-size portraits because scale allows each person to be fully present. Presented as installations, these portraits invite viewers to walk among the people I met—to encounter them face-to-face, and perhaps question their own assumptions.
